Job Details

The Assistant Accountant – Credit Control will be primarily responsible for managing the organization's credit risk and optimizing cash collection processes. You will work closely with senior management, the sales team, and commercial clients to ensure that all financial transactions align with established internal policies.

Key responsibilities and day-to-day duties include

* Debtor Management & Collection: Daily monitoring, tracking, and management of outstanding customer balances to lower Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) and improve company liquidity.

* Credit Risk Evaluation: Assessing customer creditworthiness, evaluating credit applications, and recommending appropriate credit limits for institutional and commercial clients.

* Overdue Recovery: Proactively following up on overdue accounts through systematic communication, meetings, and tailored payment plans.

* Legal Coordination: Managing escalation procedures for delinquent accounts, including coordinating with legal teams to initiate formal legal action when necessary.

* Financial Reporting & Reconciliation: Preparing routine credit control reports, performing debtor reconciliations, and delivering accurate management accounts regarding outstanding balances.

* Internal Controls Implementation: Ensuring strict compliance with corporate governance, internal controls, established financial systems, and standard accounting procedures.

* Stakeholder Negotiation: Communicating professionally with clients, sales executives, and external legal representatives to resolve billing disputes and recover outstanding payments efficiently.

Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates must possess a strong foundation in corporate accounting along with specialized skills in credit control and debt recovery within commercial or manufacturing sectors.

* Professional Qualifications: Must be part-qualified or fully professionally qualified in CA Sri Lanka, CIMA (UK), ACCA (UK), or hold an equivalent recognized accounting qualification.

* Work Experience: A minimum of 3 to 4 years of relevant work experience in credit control, debtor management, and financial accounting. Prior experience within a manufacturing or large-scale retail/distribution environment is highly preferred.

* Age Limit: Preferably below 40 years of age.

* Technical Competence: Hands-on experience and proficiency in computerized accounting software, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, and financial management tools.

* Core Accounting Knowledge: In-depth understanding of internal financial controls, credit assessment frameworks, debtor accounting principles, and statutory compliance.

* Interpersonal & Analytical Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities, strong analytical thinking, superior negotiation tactics, and effective verbal and written communication skills.

* Independence & Judgment: Demonstrated capability to work independently under tight schedules, exercise sound financial judgment, and handle delicate client negotiations with diplomacy.
